First,

A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO [livejournal.com profile] lycoris!!!

And now, for the poll, as always without any of the pretty ticky boxes, because I'm cheap, and poor ;).

How Do You Prefer Fic Recs?

a) I'm not interested/don't read fic recs

b) I don't care what fic recs look like, as long as there's a link

c) I have my own preferences as to what fic recs should look like, and want to see (pick everything that applies):
TITLE/LINK; AUTHOR; RATING; PAIRING; GENRE; SUMMARY; COMMENT ON CONTENT; COMMENT ON QUALITY; SUBJECTIVE COMMENT ON WHAT INSPIRED THE RECCER TO REC; ANYTHING ELSE I'M GOING TO ADD :)

d) I have my own preferences as to what fic recs should look like, and do *not* want to see (pick everything that applies):
TITLE/LINK; AUTHOR; RATING; PAIRING; GENRE; SUMMARY; COMMENT ON CONTENT; COMMENT ON QUALITY; SUBJECTIVE COMMENT ON WHAT INSPIRED THE RECCER TO REC; ANYTHING ELSE I'M GOING TO ADD :)

Thankee! :)

And totally unrelated, I *so* wish the spammers would stop trying to sell me land in Costa Rica three times a day! I much rather fancy some prime bit of ocean-front property in Atlantis, thank you very much!

TITLE/LINK
AUTHOR
RATING
PAIRING
GENRE
SUMMARY
COMMENT ON CONTENT
COMMENT ON QUALITY

hahaha, I guess that makes it a hassle for you. In general though, I trust the rec's you give us. We have slightly similiar tastes in what is good.

A ficrec should always have:
Title
Rating
Genre
Main Characters (not necessarily pairing, because I for one am not always seeking out a certain ship, but I do have favorite/not-so-favorite characters)
Summary
Comment on fic itself

I'm fairly brave, so with a lot of reccers, all I need is a GO READ THIS NOW to push me, but in general, I'm looking for title, author, rating, pairing, and any warnings the author has included. I'd like a summary, comment on content, OR comment on quality to go along with it, but I don't need all of them. One is usually fine. Reccers can say as much as they want as long as they don't spoil any major plot points for me!

I prefer C, but often read fics that have been sent my way by people saying "Eeep! Just read it!"

c. (I love recs.) At a minimum: Title with link, rating, summary. At a maximum, anything you want to tell me. ;-)

(b), mostly. I really like to hear *why* the reccomender liked the fic, particularly if it's by an author I haven't read or a pairing I'm not normally into. I also like that because it helps me to get to know the person *making* the rec, too.

I second your answer.

If I trust/know&like the reccer, a simple: OMGREADTHIS is enough, but most of the time I like to know why it was so striking, esp, as <lj user=ferretgm) says, if the pairing is one I wouldn't normally touch. A mini-review is a nice way to rec a fic.

I'm with them. *nods*. One thing I like to know is if its a WIP or how many words, just because I read A LOT, and have only so much time. Pairings are a must as well, as I prefer some over others. Evidently. *g*

I hate it when half my message is cut off...

I can't remember what I wanted to say, but it was really intelligent. Damn touchpad.

If it's by a reccer I trust.

If it's not a ship I dislike.

If I'm not busy.

If there's a link going click me NOW!

... then I might well read it. I'm not reading a lot at the moment, or writing - seem to have been very tired lately! I'm not bothered by the rating, and once I've clicked the link, I can always click back if I hit something I dislike!

Well, I love recs, LOVE even. I consider them absolutely necessary in a fandom as large as HP.

My preferences in what a rec should look like are reflected in my own recs 'cos I give the info I'd like to see.

They consist of two blocks. 1) Fic info (title, link, rating, pairing, summary, length, warnings -- but this one I'm picky about. I hate what I consider silly warnings, like, "Slash" or some really mild stuff). 2) Subjective comments.

I can't come up with what I do not want to see. If I think some info in the rec is too much, I'll just skip it. Too little for me is more annoying. I don't like recs that consist only of a link/title. I read (with more or less 'gusto') all slash pairings and gen (and sometimes het), but find far not all themes/scenarios equally attractive. So I like to know a bit about the actual contents of a fic 'cos it helps me choose. For instanse, there are always 10-20 new h/d fics a day, but I'm not going to read them all.

meep, forgot the main point

WiP or finshed in a rec is a must.

Title, rating, pairing. That's generally all I really care about. This is a good poll, though, since I've started doing fic recs on my lj, too, and it seems that everybody likes a lot of info on those!
I'm always interested in something you rec, though, hijja, wonderfully twisted taste that you have :P

Solidly in the [B] camp, but I love to have a mini-review of why the reccer liked it.

What you've been doing so far is good, especially listing *why* you're reccing it, because I know you like a lot of dark stuff that would just depress me, so when you say it upset *you*, I know to really stay away from it. :-D Other times I'll go read what you've recced and loved it. So I guess I should say

c) I have my own preferences as to what fic recs should look like, and want to see: TITLE/LINK; RATING; PAIRING; GENRE; SUMMARY; SUBJECTIVE COMMENT ON WHAT INSPIRED THE RECCER TO REC. I don't really care who wrote it if it's good, or the rating, really, and as for quality, if you're the one reccing it, I'll have no worries about that.

Since I haven't had much time to read lately, what I read is what my f-list shares, and recs I find in other places. What I like to read in recs is: everything that goes/should go in the story heading, plus a note from the rec'er.

I wish my spammers would stop assuming I have sexual deficiencies, and that I want to get Windows XP.
