Apologies for spamming you madly with search posts today - I swear my brain is about as effective as a damaged sieve. A week or so ago, I *think* someone on my f-list recced a Harry/Draco fic titled 'Fairplay' (romance/humour between R and NC-17). At least I hope it wasn't a newsletter... I'd so love to find the author and link!

As for the second thing... Do I have any (native) Spanish speakers on my f-list?

If I have, do you by any chance know one or two utterly trivial (trashy, cliched) Spanish romance novel, preferrably on a historical theme, you could rec me, or give me author and title for? Because my mom's been learning Spanish for a long time, and I'd really like to give her a book for Christmas, but it should not be too challenging, and a genre she enjoys. Isabel Allende did not quite do the trick (I ended up reading around in it more than she...). Any ideas? Translations *into* Spanish would be fine as well...

I'm not a Spanish speaker. But I know that Judith McNaught's novels have been translated into Spanish and she is an American romance writer who has a few historicals. I'm going to give you the links to a site that has covers of her novels with their titles. I'll give you the English name and you can scroll down to see the Spanish name on the covers.

*huggles*
Thanks so much - I don't know if it's acceptable to admit in polite society, but I picked up 'Once and Always' at one point during my US exchange year, and still have it ;). I sure know it's mom's cup of tea, so double thanks ;).

Oh I happy admit to reading romance novels. Lots and lots of romance novels. Is that the only one you've read of of hers? Or have you read others? Something Wonderful is my favorite. I'm a sucker for cynical jaded Dukes and Jordan is....*yummm*

*raises hand* Native Spanish speaker here! Alas, I don't know many novels of the "trashy/cliched" kind. None easy, either. And I haven't read much in Spanish this year.

...

I've been of no help... :(

But what I can say is, translations of recent novels tend to be much easier than translations of older works, and usually easier than works written directly in Spanish as well.

No problem - I'd have much more luck with finding translations *into* German myself - trashy romance seems to be an English-speaking venue :).

Yeah, now that I think of it, all trashy romance novels I've seen were translations from English. I'm sure they exist in every language, though, just not as many.
