Laocoon's Children by Sam Vimes ([livejournal.com profile] copperbadge) [gen/slash, some SB/RL; R]
Summary: Ten years ago, Lucius Malfoy got to Peter Pettigrew before Sirius could, and the universe changed. Sirius spent years watching from a distance, until one day, when Harry was eight, he took Harry from the Dursleys. After two years in hiding, Harry returned to the Wizarding world to attend Hogwarts, only to find himself once more at risk -- once more facing Peter Pettigrew, who would like nothing better than to see Harry dead in the service of resurrecting Voldemort. Follow Harry and his friends -- brave Neville, clever Padma, and shy Draco -- as they are caught up in the battle for dominance between the Order and the Death Eaters.
The sequel of Sam Vime's brilliant Stealing Harry, an AU universe in which Lucius Malfoy went to Azkaban after the Potters' death instead of Sirius Black, and Sirius and Remus bring up young Harry together. Laocoon's Children chronicles the adventures of Harry at Hogwarts, under *very* different circumstances and with a very different circle of friends. Utterly amazing stuff!

Little Witches by [livejournal.com profile] manraviel [gen, G]
Summary: Books, cats and fairytales - that's what made Hermione a special little girl. But then one day, she and her parents discover something else.
I've always been fond of pre-Hogwarts children's fics, and this gem of a tale, showing us Hermione's childhood and her first flash of magic, is particularly beautiful and thoughtful. For Hermione- and cat lovers :).

The Devil is a Liar by [livejournal.com profile] millefiori [slash, MF/OW, MF/PW; NC-17]
Summary: Percy Weasley has far more important things to worry about than an inappropriate relationship between Oliver Wood and Marcus Flint.
Percy observes a tryst between Marcus Flint and his housemate Oliver, and develops a kind of obsession. A hot and often quite hilarious fic, no doubt, but it's insight into Percy's rather confused, contradictory mind that makes it truly exceptional.

Drinking Dead Water, again by [livejournal.com profile] millefiori [hints of slash/het, Snape's imagination, NC-17]
Summary: Snape returns to his quarters following the late night confrontation with Moody that takes place in Chapter 25 of 'Goblet of Fire'.
Nasty imaginary Snape/Moody revenge fantasy. Call me whatever, but this is how I *like* my Snape: sinister, totally unredeemed, and with a convincing explanation of what drew him to Voldemort in the first place. Not nice, but very good ;).

You scored as Utilitarianism. Your life is guided by the principles of Utilitarianism: You seek the greatest good for the greatest number.
“The said truth is that it is the greatest happiness of the greatest number that is the measure of right and wrong.”
--Jeremy Bentham
“Whenever the general disposition of the people is such, that each individual regards those only of his interests which are selfish, and does not dwell on, or concern himself for, his share of the general interest, in such a state of things, good government is impossible.”
