Lately, I saw a few people on my f-list rage over LJ's decision to announce their planned upgrade to 100 icons for a paid account only after advertising their not-unexpensive permanent account. Which sucks milk bottles, and I can so sympathise!
But it made me think... what *is* it about icons? I mean, yes, I like to watch them. Some are funny, some beautiful,some hot, and some just all-around amazing. I can see why, say, five would be nice, ten would give a nice bit of variety (though too much for me to work with), but... 100? Is there something you can do with that many icons (swap them, give them as presents) that I just can't see?
Because honestly, I can have three, one of which I never use, one once in a blue moon when I remember, and the other goes for everything. I don't claim they're pretty or anything, but they're... me, kindof, and I like the recognition value of a much-used icon (as in knowing who is it without having to look at the name). Yes, it works with two or three as well, but anything more would confuse me and complicate my life ;).
