Fandom Policies on Downloading, Archiving and Deleting Fics

There's been a batch of fascinating discussions and polls about the policies of deleting, archiving and saving fics recently, which provoked quite a strong gut level reaction in me I had not really expected, and which inspired me to think a bit more about these topics. If I've kept my comments below *very* subjective, it's because I'm not trying to wank at all. I just fail to understand some views altogether, and am fishing for explanations. People have *every* right in the world to disagree and to tell me off :).
