(British) Politics
May. 4th, 2007 12:35 pmAm dead on my feet today after spending all last night (and most of this morning) following the British election results coming in.
Not just out of detached interest, but a colleague of mine has been standing as a candidate in Scotland, and although he has done pretty well in terms of percentages, and his party has fared very well, the seat he's been contesting has gone to the 'other party' :(. On the upside, we get to keep him, but I'd have wished him success - he's one of the most kindly and committed people I've ever met in my life, and think his constituency could have done worse than elect him... ah well, such's life!
Still, it was a rollercoaster of a night, between waiting for the Scottish results to trickle in, and flinching at seeing the English ones... I'm anything but an admirer of New Labour of both the Blair and Brown variety (anything but, really, they're worse than the SPD in terms of, well, shedding their Labour skins, and, well, Iraq...) but watching the Conservative victory was intensely painful too...
And well, it looks as if not only US Americans have trouble with voting machines... I sincerely hope that trend won't find support here, because counting votes 'by hand' is a pretty enjoyable - and exciting - activity ;).
Back to beta-reading now, and trying to get a little bit of actual work done in between :).
ETA: Thank gods! for regional lists! Wow, he made it in yet! *dances*
Am walking around with a very stupid grin now! :D
Hm... maybe I should flock this...?
