Fic and Author RECS
Dec. 6th, 2007 07:57 pmI strayed from the Xmas Fests to two absolutely *gorgeous* fics (and writers):
Relinquary by
pushdragon [Harry/Lucius, NC-17]
The post-Voldemort world has been unveiled and has deteriorated into an obsession with all the worst things Muggle. Lucius Malfoy is not happy, and finds an ally in his old enemy, Harry Potter.
Wow, this has to be one of the best Harry/Lucius (and Lucius!) ever written. Even wandless and disgraced, he's got every trick in the book up his sleeve, all cool calculation and scheming and *still* ending up with Harry under his skin. And such a gorgeous, jaded and angry Harry... Wow again - read this, if you have any love for the ship, or the characters, or just cracking good, hot and intelligent fic.
For Evermore by
stonegrad [Lucius/Albus Severus, others, NC-17]
Albus Potter was always going to be different - his family just didn't realise how much...
The story of young Albus and his obsession with Lucius Malfoy and his world. Novel-length, and I've only so far been treating myself to 3/4s of it for lack of time, but couldn't hold off my excitement any longer. Delicious and decadent, with such a wonderful, torn and determined and quintessentially Slytherin little Albus, who still manages to be all Potter characteristics at the same time. This story rocks! Don't overlook the warnings, but give it a try if you dare.
Of course
pushdragon has been one of my favourite authors for a long time, both for her versatile writing - handling romance, angst, intense hotness, humour/crack/parody and avocados with equal aplomb - and for the delicious, sensual and vivid quality of her style.
I've only stumbled across
stonegrad's fics on IJ recently, and was blown away by her imagery and the way she makes characters' emotions jump out and grab you almost physically - *especially* because she can sell me levels of incest and chan that few other writers can. The quality of her writing is just too outstanding to pass up on!
The two fics above are probably (and from my own slanted perspective, of course) the best I've read of either. Although
pushdragon's Silk is a close runner-up... Give them a try if you haven't already!
Also, here's a very interesting and thought-provoking essay by
