Eeeep! Bought paperback version of "Kushiel's Justice"! *is totally excited*
That said, two weeks ago I picked up the second part of Trudi Canavan's 'Black Magician' trilogy, mainly because way back when the HP course was going on, somebody pointed out the parallels although unfortunately that term paper hasn't (or not yet) surfaced.
So, I read... and I *should* have liked it, because there are obvious HP parallels, I *like* pure fantasy, and the slash plot (yeah, I know, it's not slash when it's canon, but you get my point) should have endeared it to me very much.
But... where PS sucked me in and refused to spit me out again (and I was perfectly willing to hate it in the first place), this... well, it's not bad, but I skipped a lot of what was going on, and it just isn't very interesting. Basically because the characters are all neither interesting not very vivid, and the magicians are pretty much interchangeable. I found herDarkHigh Lord quite intriguing because I sense a Potter-type good/evil turnabout coming (or maybe I'm just hoping for one) but everybody else is less than intriguing. Worse even, I skipped the slash plot, which isn't a good sign...
Dunno, maybe picking up the second part instead of the first wasn't a bright idea, but I'm pretty sure if I had started HP with CoS, I'd not have been disappointed... Am I missing something there?
