FIC RECS: Alex Rider
Jun. 28th, 2010 03:14 amOne shortish and powerful, the other epic and thrumming with tension:
No Enemies by
sua_lay [Yassen/Alex, PG-13]
Summary: A sad bastard walks into the bar and has a drink with a ghost.
It's not usually easy to reduce me to tears with a fic, but this managed – Alex's despair, the way he's looking for an escape from the trap his work for MI5 has become are so extremely vivid, and Yassen is a wonderful counterpoint and the most fitting hallucination imaginable :). Please read this – it's really spectacular.
The Blood and Fire Arc by
annephoenix [Alex-centric, gen, R]
(Never Say Never, You Can Run, But You Can't Hide, and The Abyss of Revenge - plus a prequel/backstory I also love: No Mistake [Ian/Yassen, R])
Summary: Alex should have been safe. After all, he was just taking part in a training exercise … right? Right, but in Alex's world, adventure and mystery are never far away.
'Epic' doesn't start to describe it – Alex has another run-in with Scorpia, and it pulls the rug out from under everything he'd been led to believe about his uncle, his father and Yassen Gregorovich. When he goes in search of the truth, all hell breaks loose. This is a roller-coaster of plot twists, action and subversion of canon that had me – literally! – gnawing my fingers. Highly recommended!
