Putting aside last post's whining, we now resume with happiness:
Today's Happy is (*gasp*) again book-related. In fact, it involves me discovering the most *amazing* SF series: Warchild, Burndive and Cagebird by Karin Lowachee.
Now it's not *quite* the same level of instant breathless adoration as the Vorkosigan series, but the best I've encountered since
fyrie put me in harm'sColdfire's way.
What do I love...
a) it's very character- rather than technology-driven: pretty much the only thing that makes SF attractive to me
b) it's dark as heck
c) it's slashy as heck, with the sort of non-con and mindgames implications that make me fall in love in fanfic. Not explicit at all, but very present nonetheless.
Actually, I'm gobsmacked that this hasn't been recced left, right and centre on my friendslist because it's been around for three or four years already, and, well, just strikes me as the sort of thing a *lot* of people I know would enjoy... Claustrophobic, dark, intelligent, and pretty seductive in a wrong sort of way :).
I've only read the second and third part yet (finished No. 3 just a few minutes ago), so there's one more to come which I'm hopping excited about :D. Soverygood!
