Inception

Wah, home vacation is almost over :(. We're flying back to E-Town tomorrow, and my mum's going to spend two more weeks with me in Scotland. So I'll be more accessible online, but still not as much as usual.

Had a great two weeks doing nothing at all except for working through and computerising my entire book collection (1599 books altogether, not counting those at home - yet). Spent a lot of time with [personal profile] hummelchen, which is always great.

Last Sunday, we went out for my dad's belated birthday dinner, and I went to see 'Inception' afterwards as promised to [personal profile] lmeden (not having been able to twist [personal profile] hummelchen's arm sufficiently to get her to come along due to severe Capriophobia).

Considering the squee I've seen on my flist already, I'm not surprised that it was pretty damn good!

I don't watch a lot of movies, but 'Inception', while not quite as clever as 'Matrix', was exciting and ingenious and, most importantly, thought-provoking and overall intelligent. Of course give me ambiguous endings, and I'll purr like Hexe Teh Cat ;).

I only had two or three instances of 'damn, it would've been a much better movie if di Caprio wouldn't play the male lead!', but overall I was sucked in and liked the rest of the team immensely (although the assembling reminded me a little of 'Ocean Eleven'...). So much that I was dreading the seemingly inevitable getting-some-characters-killed in action-based movies. I was *very* happy to see everybody walk out alive until I started thinking about it and realised that what had been accomplished was the mind-rape of one of my favourite characters...

Pretty insidious, come to think about it, even if you buy the motive behind it (and we don't have any evidence that it's altruism instead of capitalist power-grabs at work...). Which made me ponder and like the movie even more.

If it's still running in the UK, I think I'll go and see it again in the original version. Which pretty much equals all thumbs up, coming from me. Definitely recommended.
