Ok, silly first. What in all heck does tl;dr mean. And does it give away that I've been nosing around f_w?
And some more SPOILERY bits ahead, last time 'round, just because I so love the colour (and don't want to bore most of you to death). I'm only so late posting second impressions because
hummelchen hogged our only HBP copy like mad during the holidays!
Weasley Wizarding Wheezes:
I'm dying, dying, dying to read porn involving the Patented Daydream Charms. Because, you know, they're just made for it. Like the Room of Requirement ;).
The Slug Club:
Oh, I loved that chapter! Nearly as much as 'Spinner's End' and a certain later one involving a tower :). We get Harry-obsessing-over-Draco, Blaise Zabini actually appearing (although what niggled me a bit was
a) that there seems to be no possibility for a not-rabidly-racist Slytherin student, and
b) the mysterious disappearance of Theodore Nott combined with the mysterious appearance of Blaise. It really raises a question about Polyjuice and one student more in the books than for real ;).
Definitely adored the ever-so-slight Blaise/Ginny subtext here. And the Blaise/Goyle. And the not-subtle-at-all Pansy/Draco.
And I can't help but love Slughorn - he's so... *obvious* ;).
*And* of course Draco getting one over Harry *once*! That made my entire month at least even the first time round, and still makes me smirk so badly. As good as him winning at Quidditch for once! And unchivalric bastard-ness aside, I still read it as a big hint for Draco's later development: he *could* have killed Harry there. He had reason (Lucius, his death threat in OotP, and arriving home as a slug, Voldemort going all 'let's just off Potter and be done with it'). It might even have got him into Voldemort's good books (despite the focus on Dumbledore). But he didn't. Quite a bit of foreshadowing, imvho...
Snape Victorious:
Ah, the Harry/Snape tension! I can happily misread most of their lines as takeouts from
pornish_pixies HP/SS fic.
"Potter is quite — ah — safe in my hands."
"...you have evidently decided that the wearing of school robes would detract from your appearance."
Mmh, yes, why would Harry need *clothes* at all...? *purrs happily*
And Harry's reaction to Snape's appointment was delicious! Or, well, not entirely - his "Personally, I'm going to keep my fingers crossed for another death..." reminded me *very* much of Draco's "I hope it's Granger." line in CoS, only that he was younger, while Harry is a near-adult, and pretty much means it. I do like his ongoing hatred for Snape, but I think it exposes him as a prejudiced, short-sighted git.
Still, Snape's DADA appointment made me wonder whether there's another bit of foreshadowing. If the DADA position is cursed by Voldie himself, it practically implies that Snape will not be there to teach the following year, and that something nasty is in the books for him (even if Remus and Umbridge got away fairly lucky). Would Dumbledore have given him the job after all this time without a *very* good reason, and lots of second thought. Yes, I'm reaching, I know, but...
