I've been thinking about why those things appeal to (some of) us... I think it mostly draws those of us who're insecure, both about how we're perceived by others, and perhaps about our 'status' in fandom (heck, I can't even write 'status' again without thinking ofmctabby's Two Worlds...). Do we play in those memes because we don't feel loved enough, or feel loved and don't trust it (oookay, the 'if you like me, there's got to be something wrong with you, or you don't say what you really think' attitude might be just me). Or is it just a normal desire for acknowledgement?
That said, I find it quite challenging to post even pure praise un-anonymously in what is not conceptualised as a downrightMutual Masturbation MemeLove Meme. 'Cause even if I explicitly want to hear the uncushioned not-so-good-things, I never trust that goes for everyone, and I'd hate to hurt feelings...
