... going on here at [livejournal.com profile] dreaminoflorien's - with a twist:

This is the best of both worlds, the love meme and the hate meme. Here's the trick - anonymous commenting is turned off. That's right, it's time for some real honesty around Livejournal.

Pimp, participate, and enjoy. :)

I've been thinking about why those things appeal to (some of) us... I think it mostly draws those of us who're insecure, both about how we're perceived by others, and perhaps about our 'status' in fandom (heck, I can't even write 'status' again without thinking of [livejournal.com profile] mctabby's Two Worlds...). Do we play in those memes because we don't feel loved enough, or feel loved and don't trust it (oookay, the 'if you like me, there's got to be something wrong with you, or you don't say what you really think' attitude might be just me). Or is it just a normal desire for acknowledgement?

That said, I find it quite challenging to post even pure praise un-anonymously in what is not conceptualised as a downright Mutual Masturbation MemeLove Meme. 'Cause even if I explicitly want to hear the uncushioned not-so-good-things, I never trust that goes for everyone, and I'd hate to hurt feelings...

Still, in the spirit of sheep everywhere, I'm here ;).

Well, how are we going to be more honest than usual without anonymous comments? And how can anonymous comments make us more honest? I don't think these memes have any use other than indeed Mutual Masturbation, like you say.

I don't know... it's only that I find it easier to gush about somebody anonymously than to their face. It kind of avoids the impression of trying to suck up to somebody, and keeps it on the level of real affection. If that makes sense?

Personally, I keep hoping for concrit either way... so bloody hard to get :(.

Eeew, no! To be honest, I find that kind of twisted... like the infernal 'I wanna be a BNF' thing. I mean I *have* a pretty clear picture of who my fanfic idols are, and none of them needs to advertise themselves. Anyone who does probably already admits that they don't belong in the sought-after category...

But the competition is just about writing fic and having it criticized by the judges. I think it's possible to get something useful from it (and, OK, I wouldn't mind getting some attention for my fics). If you get selected, you don't necessarily become a BNF. It all depends on what you do with it, I suppose. I wouldn't have time for it anyway (I couldn't handle my f-list anymore if it became too big).
Maybe I'm naive, but that's how I see it.
