Also, I'm *so* learning to filter! Always felt it was a mildly dodgy tool to shut up people without them knowing, but heck - I *need* to have a way to read newsletters and communities and stuff individually. Having all of those on my f-list makes me overlook so bloody much. This feature actually *is* useful...

Heh, I used to read filtered about a year ago, but then I found that I forgot to pick a filter for quite a few interesting people when adding them to my flist, and so I never read them and was sure they'd disappeared from the face of the earth :)

Then I got overwhelmed by my flist, cut it by half, and now read it unfiltered.

I have one for friends and one for communities. It really does help avoid missing stuff.

I thought that filtering would make it easier to read and keep up, and it kind of does, but you have to make sure, as painless_j mentioned, that you don't forget to add someone. D'oh!

Also, it's deceptive -- it looks so neat and tidy and organized that you say "I can afford to join sixteen more communities and friend these other 23 people" and then the filters won't help. You'll still be overwhelmed.

But for the purpose you mentioned, it should work really well. (I have a group just for people who post a LOT, like seven times each day and can use up the whole f-list page.)
