Klingon Post: Smuggling

Apart from such things as pirate/renegade raids (rare) and emergency calls of all varieties from damaged warp cores to damaged navigation buoys to an alien life form alert on a cruise ship turning out to be an insectoid passenger's pupated love child (don't ask!), smuggling is pretty much our daily diet here at the Klin/Fed border.
The Federation takes this immensely seriously in all its forms. I honestly can only be arsed to care if it's weapons, warships or bio/genetical matter to ruin a planetary biosphere. I'm aware that intoxicants are a problem on a lot of Federation worlds, but Klingon biology pretty much deals with it before any addictions can break out (unless you try *really* hard), so I can't manage to work up any outrage over stuff that's perfectly legal in the Empire. Where, of course, everything is legal unless you're doing it while on duty…
Luxury goods? Who the hell cares? To quote my instructor in Cultural Studies: Federation (at Klin Academy, of course!): 'Such degeneratives will speed a culture along its way to Khuve-dom'. :)
The only thing that really infuriates me is the smuggling of weapons and ships. We *know* there's intense smuggling activity going on between the Triangle and the Klingon renegade fleet/lines in the Outer Sector border regions – pretty much in front of our nose, but I just can't see how to crack *any* of it restrained by Federation legislation.
If I could take the 'Swift' or the fleet-let, paint over the insignia, stroll into the Triangle, infiltrate certain bases for a while without anybody looking over our shoulders, there'd be results. (No,

I'm beginning to see the appeal of Intelligence and the 'operative system' in the Empire: you get a job, the resources to do it, and unless you screw up and everybody has to point out they don't know you, never heard of you and you've never been a citizen of the Empire in the first place, you can behave as outrageously as the enemy is letting you get away with. Compared to drowning in bureaucracy, that can sound pretty appealing.
That said, we are no closer to handling the smuggling problem, but at least I got a very pretty temporary assistant ambassador's rank to enter in the negotiations we talked about, Kara (no, it's totally meaningless and only made up to make the Feds thing I am something – apart from a proto-terrorist, that is). I hope that's the "showing name and face" the powers that are had in mind. And I'm going to go to Aurora 7 (the mining moon) to, well, no longer represent the Empire in a quarrel over authority, but to express Klingon cultural values within a peaceful collective effort. Ain't language great? The zantai-Rustazh must have worked in overdrive, Kara - thank you!
And the best luck imaginable to the US voting populace on the f-list.

And for your last point: give them enough rope and (hopefully) they will hang themselves.....
