Potter 7...

Bloody hell!

Nah, I'm *not* happy with the news - the Book 7 release date of July 21 2007. I could've well waited 'til 2008 or 2009. Especially not with the OotP film coming out at just the same time - it's way too much Potter at once, and I won't be able to savour and digest either properly. And fandom probably won't be either.

Am also in distinctly two minds about being at Sectus while it happens - I prefer to bury myself in a room/secluded spot and read through a new book, and wouldn't that be a waste of time, in London with so many people to chat to? On the other hand, it could perhaps even be fun? So hard to imagine what it might be like...

Still, it's way too bloody early! I don't want speculation to end yet! *wails*

I'm in two minds myself. I originally planned on getting the book as soon as possible and reading it right away without stop.
Now I'm thinking about buying it and waiting with reading until I have properly digested the OotP movie. Hah! Only thing is that I know myself too well...I wouldn't be able to resist temptation. I'd have to read it immediately.

I could probably wait till next morning, or afternoon, but no longer (tried and failed miserably with OotP...). And sure I don't *want* to wait if it's out, I'm just a bit miserable it'll be out at all already.

Well, I felt like WTF when I finished HBP and wanted to read more straight away, but after I got used to the idea of waiting for the next book I was okay. What you said before - 2008 - I would have been perfectly alright with that.

I still have the hope that they change the release-date again, but that's not very realistic, isn't it?

[identity profile] ex-ms-katoni171.livejournal.com 2007-02-01 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Despite the squeeage, I too was a bit surprised: so close to the movie? And will the movie, Sectus and book all at the same time be too much for me, I wonder?

OTOH, I went to a fandom all-nighter when HBP came out and it was brilliant! There's loads of people to squee and hyperventilate at when you're finished.

[identity profile] kennahijja.livejournal.com 2007-02-01 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I wondered about the 'too much for me' too :).
Though if it's as heavy as the price seems to imply, it might be an all-out all nighter :). Or they're just trying to *really* capitalise on the last book...

[identity profile] hphaeton.livejournal.com 2007-02-01 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I think the price will go down rapidly over the next months. It did so for OotP and HBP...there are too many booksellers trying to catch the reader's attention.

And didn't JKR say that book 7 wasn't that long/thick? Less pages than OotP and HBP? Cannot remember where I read it, though...

[identity profile] the_con_cept.livejournal.com 2007-02-01 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I agreeeeeeee! With everything, except I'm not going to Sectus anyway. But if I did, that would kill me, because I read about twelve times faster than most people, and having to keep quiet and not spoil anything would probably cause implosion. *g* And I can't listen to other people read. That drives me nuts--WAY too slow for me.

But yeah...too much to close together. *sigh*

[identity profile] the_con_cept.livejournal.com 2007-02-01 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
And of course I meant 'too close together.' Bah.

[identity profile] kennahijja.livejournal.com 2007-02-01 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I do read pretty fast, though not super-quickly... going on a clear-head/whimper in private walk wouldn't be a problem :). Still, it's definitely too much all at once. Economically speaking too...

[identity profile] snapelike.livejournal.com 2007-02-01 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Too much Potterism...

I, too had planned sitting quietly with LdyB and read from the last page back, digest, and cry over our boys... But yeah... Sectus. I am not going there, but for the papers. I want peace and quiet and bleh, it sucks that it is exactly that week-end.

I so agree. It is at least ten years too early.

[identity profile] kennahijja.livejournal.com 2007-02-01 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, five years, but still :).

I've never actually tried to read a book in company, so who knows, I might like it... And yeah - can't see your boys (who include half of mine) with much hope for survival either. And I'm way too empathic to handle major deaths well in company (perfectly fine on my own, though).
ext_39901: (Default)

[identity profile] snapelike.livejournal.com 2007-02-03 05:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll definitely prefer to handle the boys gone in private, thank you very much, and not in front of 300 other fans. Also I am already now quite allergic to the squeeing over how wonderful it is, so I think my Snapish self will do better alone.

I am not too fond of reading with others, even if Lucius ends up Minister and Severus as the Hero. Yeah, right...

Btw, there is a comm invite coming your way some time later today.

[identity profile] lazy-neutrino.livejournal.com 2007-02-01 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Ditto. Glad it's not just me.

I don't want to miss out on time with friends at Sectus, and I prefer to read on my own.

Grr.

It's quite the dilemma, isn't it? Though I can't imagine getting out un-spoiled even if I could manage to postpone my reading till after Sectus (not that there's much chance I'll be able to show that much restraint). Then again, apart from watching [livejournal.com profile] hummelchen read HBP all through Wales, I've never tried reading with others... Still, it's lousy timing!

Agreed 100%.

I'm thinking now it might be worth investing in a reasonable hotel room (would you guys be interested in joining me?) and opt out of Sectus on Saturday to allow measured reading time. Usually I don't finish until Sunday but perhaps I can speed it up enough to get to the Yule Ball.

Except that I'm supposed to be decorating the darn thing! ARRGHH!!!

(I think the multiple exclamation marks are this time justified.)

Ach well. I'd been thinking it would be awesome to have a bit fandom get-together for book 7, and it looks like I'm getting that wish. I'd rather go out with a bang rather than the anti-climatic experience I had collecting the last book, and I'd much rather do the come-down with some good friends with whom I've shared so many Potterish highs and lows.

[identity profile] fluffyllama.livejournal.com 2007-02-01 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
It'll be fun! It's going to be a hell of a conference, not that it wasn't before :)

[identity profile] kennahijja.livejournal.com 2007-02-02 04:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Exciting, definitely :). Perhaps not the way I'd have imagined being introduced to Book 7, but yes, I'm getting a little bit excited about it :).

[identity profile] ariadneelda.livejournal.com 2007-02-01 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, yes, way too early. Why couldn't they wait one more year? *wails with you* Sectus will be crazy OMG. I can't even wrap my mind around that yet.
ext_13197: Hexe (Default)

[identity profile] kennahijja.livejournal.com 2007-02-02 04:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes - although thinking about it makes me somewhat excited. But I so could have waited longer!

[identity profile] fleshdress.livejournal.com 2007-02-01 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooh, are you coming to Sectus? And I think it's too soon for book 7, if only because I'm sure JKR needs more time. :/
ext_13197: Hexe (Default)

[identity profile] kennahijja.livejournal.com 2007-02-02 04:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooh, are you coming to Sectus?
Yup - so it seems :). You too???

And I'm totally with you - this is the one book I really don't want to see as a rush-job, there's just too many expectations hanging on it.

[identity profile] sor-bet.livejournal.com 2007-02-01 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
It's coming out DURING Sectus? Wow.

I know some people who rush through the books, but I've tried to take my time, and I definitely will with this one. I mean, you only get to read it for the first time once, and it's going to be too special not to savor.

OTOH, EVERYONE at a HP convention reading the book at the same time? Everyone going to a bookstore together on Friday to buy it? It will be like a supernova of HP intensity. :-D
ext_13197: Hexe (Default)

[identity profile] kennahijja.livejournal.com 2007-02-02 04:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I couldn't possibly wait :). I've read the last three in one go (once interrupted by sleep with HBP), and it was a very *short* sleep, I was too curious :).

It will be like a supernova of HP intensity. :-D
Looks like it - I'm a bit excited about *that* prospect :).

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2007-02-02 02:44 am (UTC)(link)
I'm thinking that, after all, there could be no better place to come down from DH than among Sectus friends. But I'm still emotionally wrung out by the idea of it being here so soon, AND the idea that the end of my lovely England trip is going to be all waiting to get the book and reading the book and sobbing, instead of the fun touristy things that I was planning for those few days. I'm entitled to be wrought.
ext_13197: Hexe (Default)

[identity profile] kennahijja.livejournal.com 2007-02-02 02:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly - it's just too soon :). And of course hell *either* on the touristy things (on which I'd also hoped at least a little bit, combined with book-shopping) *or* on the fandomy side (and to be honest, I can't see myself not reading the book at the earliest opportunity, or hope to get out unspoiled even if I had that much restraint... Damn! Timing really sucks here.

But... whee! You're coming after all!?! The last thing I heard was Anne making hopeful noises, but nothing for sure! *squees*

[identity profile] amanuensis1.livejournal.com 2007-02-18 08:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I AM COMING. It is official! ^_^

[identity profile] waterbird.livejournal.com 2007-02-02 11:24 am (UTC)(link)
I'm also torn about the reading question. I'm so afraid of anything being spoiled that I think I'd rather just go home and curl up with the book and savour it all by myself -- and then stagger back down to the con to weep with everyone. But it could be a lot of fun reading it in the company of the fandom.
ext_13197: Hexe (Default)

[identity profile] kennahijja.livejournal.com 2007-02-02 12:50 pm (UTC)(link)
*grin*

I think had I known that beforehand, I might have decided against Sectus and done the curling up and weeping at home (ok, not the weeping type, but... as you said, it's a matter of comfort). Still, it might be fun in company :).

[identity profile] waterbird.livejournal.com 2007-02-02 01:20 pm (UTC)(link)
The ironic part is that I put off registering for anything for quite a long time because I kept thinking, 'What if the book is released the same weekend?' Then JKR posted in December and sort of implied that she wasn't anywhere near finished, so I started thinking that maybe it wouldn't be done in time for July. So I registered for Sectus.

Ah, but I don't really mind. We'll all figure out how to balance everything. It's going to be an amazing weekend. :)

[identity profile] bellonablack.livejournal.com 2007-02-03 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
YOU SAID IT!

I'm unhappy with the news too. :-( Seems so sad to be ending soon. I may not read it as quickly. Heck, I don't know, I may wait a bit ;-). But no, I think I would have liked 2009 infinitely more.
