All right, I went to see Pirates of the Carribean 3 last night with [livejournal.com profile] hummelchen, and it was great fun and nearly made me forget I had a headache most of the time. Enjoyable, exciting, if the weakest of the three, and hopefully the last!

We fought over coffee on the relative merits of the first part ([livejournal.com profile] hummelchen's favourite, and the second (mine), and discussed a lot of RL things so that I walked out in a way better mood (and a little less scared) than before.

That said, I do have a serious question about the ending!ending of this...

Well, the *final* ending after the credits... did I interpret this right, that the boy who was hanged (and singing beforehand) at the beginning was indeed Will's and Elizabeth's son from the end? Because that'd be very cool in a highly tragical way - and a way better ending than the 'leaving open the possibility of a sequel' that was the 'real' end? Or am I applying my trademarked 'jumping to conclusions and then clinging to them' interpretation style?

The ending thing aside, I thought that the entire film would have benefitted from being shorter (the Calypso-plotline in particular seemed *very* superfluous, and contained the only moment in a film of otherwise stunning visuals where CGI really *really* sucked too much for words).

But that aside, it was definitely fun, if not the best thing since sliced bread :).

Nope, that was a different boy. Lord Beckett was there in the execution, which was set around the time when Will and co. were in Singapore.

Yes, you're right - that makes it pretty definite. I just wondered about the parallels - same song, same-looking kid... my brain makes those kinds of jumps pretty often ;).

It was definitely a fun movie but I really hope that, somewhere in the Ficton universe, Elizabeth is doing something more with herself than just being a mommy. And, is it my imagination, or did she look really YOUNG for having lived through 10 mortal years? Maybe Jack found that fountain and is slipping her some eternal youth? (Or something. *whistles innocently*)

Will and Elizabeth's meeting wasn't after ten years. It was their very first one, before Will began his official duties.

I think she meant the second one - the one you get to see after sitting through the endless credits (if with pretty stunning music overall)...

Aw, damn, I didn't sit through the credits. I was afraid I'd miss something.

I think they made the credits extra long on purpose to be sadistic.

Probably. X-men 3 all over again.

Hahaha - yes, exactly.

I wonder when X-4 is coming out? ;)

spoiler ahoy

You clearly didn't sit through aaaaallll the credits. :D

After they list every single sentient and semi-sentient lifeform that had anything whatsoever to do with any part of making the movie, there was a quick scene that was set 10 years later. Elizabeth and a young boy walking to the ocean, waiting for Will, who arrives on his ship moments later in a green flash.

Poor kid.

"Mum, where's my father?"
"Oh, he's ferrying the souls of those who died at sea to the afterlife."
"...oh...can I go play with my toy boat, now?"
"Yes, sweetums."

I'm sad I missed that scene, though. No doubt there was sad/inspirational/wistful/violiny music playing in the background.

Yeah, that's what I thought :D. But as [livejournal.com profile] purple_mirie pointed out, the presence of Beckett in the first scene rules it out. Pity :(.

LOL -- it is a Disney movie -- there is no such thing as a final ending -- meaning: final means no more possibilities for Disney to make money!!!! :-)
And trust me -- if there is one thing they are doog at -- it is making money -- or as even the Disney employees say:"All ways in the Magic Kingdom lead to a gift shop." LOL.

But it was a good movie -- better than Spiderman 3, that one made me look at the watch. Pirates didn't! And I really, really dig Jack ;-)....
But apparently Elizabeth goes for the "pretty" boy LOL!!!!

Weh, you saw it! It *was* fun (and I thought the music was amazing - one of the *very* few instances I'm considering buying the film score...). And yes - I also rolled my eyes at the Holzhammer-version of 'let's leave things open for another sequel'.

Spiderman I haven't watched - I managed to outgrow the comics, so am not even tempted ;). Well, unless it's X-Men, of course :). But yeah, I digged (dug?) the pretty boy too - not 'cause he's the pretty boy, but I really, really liked what the films (especially this last one) did with his character. Some *real* growth there (and wow, semi-tragic ending... *grin*). I love Jack, don't get me wrong, but he's not my favourite :).

LOL -- you know I have a thing for black haired bearded (somewhat) bad boys :-)....
If only in my fantasy -- remember that one picture I sent you (of my favorite musician) -- I got a better one -- darn he is cute and adorable on that one.....
I liked the music as well.
dig - dug - dug ???? You study english -- ypu tell me.... LOL

As much as I love Jack, I suspect that Will bathes more often. :)

Thank goodness Smell-O-Vision never became a Cinematic reality, else I suspect both Jack and Snape would be somewhat less popular characters. ;D

Johnny Depp is on record as saying that he really loves playing Jack Sparrow and that he hopes there will other occasions. Sorry an' all...

Yeah, that't what Thea said too - but I really, really don't want to see 'PotC VIII - Back from the Dead - Again!' in five years...

Yeah, but you know that these casual statements by leading stars are about as casual and unpremeditated as press releases from the Bundeskanzlei. I'm afraid you'd better get used to the idea.
