RECS: Half a Dozen H/D Eggs

My favourite [livejournal.com profile] hd_worldcup entries so far, all strangely unsmutty... Only got around to looking at a bit over half of the menu so far, though.

Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea by anonymous [H/D, R]
Summary: Draco Malfoy always gets what he wants. Only, this time, what he wants is someone he can never have.
I'm insanely fond of this fest's two dungeonfics, and this is one. Also, if you know how much I hate Veela!Draco, you'll appreciate that this has to be extraordinary to make me read and rec. But Draco not in control of his desires makes for a gorgeous plot.

Riptide by anonymous [H/D, PG-13]
Summary: (With apologies to George Lucas) "Who's the more foolish: the fool, or the fool who follows him?"
This is one of the more unique takes on H/D I've encountered, and considering how much is floating around, that's saying something. Marvellous take on infidelity and self-realisation, and definitely one of the most intelligent fics I've read in months. The ending is superb.

Best Interests by anonymous [H/D, PG-13]
Summary: Andromeda's death leaves Harry to take care of little Teddy Lupin. What will he do when Draco Malfoy comes looking for an heir?
I'm an easy victim for this, being totally in love with 'bringing up Teddy Lupin' fics. Great take on family dynamics and the strange world of magical solicitors. Both sweet and thoughtful.

A Dark Place in Time by anonymous [H/D, PG]
Summary: What on earth was her son thinking, falling for Harry Potter of all people, Narcissa wonders. But after the death of her husband, she finds him useful in many, and sometimes surprising, regards.
H/D through Narcissa's eyes, when the Malfoys are mourning for Lucius's death. Tense, realistic and absolutely heart-wrenching. Narcissa is absolutely perfect, but characterisation is great throughout. 'Team Canon' and really living up to it!

Prodigal by anonymous [H/D, mild NC-17, more R]
Summary: One year after Dumbledore's death, the tide turns in Voldemort's favour and with Harry Potter locked in the Malfoy dungeons, the fate of the Wizarding World seems bleak. Who'll save the saviour when he's in need of saving?
More dungeonfic, yay! It's team fanon, and fanon!Draco at his best, a tad more strong than his canon self, and still caught up in an impossible situation. Dark, but not too bad, with a smattering of typos but definitely good enough to rec.

What Could Have Been (And What Was) by anonymous [H/D, R]
Summary: Neither epilogue-compliant nor EWE; seven separate demonstrations that you can't stop the signal.
This is a whole basketful of H/D fics wrapped into one, with a clever, clever premise and wonderful style. The Teddy-part again rocked my socks so much! As did the resolution ;).

Thanks for the recs! I find it hard to choose which fic to read, especially ones with summaries that don't really clue you in (okay, clue /me/ in...) At least The Worldcup ones aren't as vague as The Snarry Games' summaries.

so little time, so many fic to read *sigh*
(and not enough kennahijja fic to read)
:)

I was browsing your journal the other day for HD_Worldcup recs. I picked and chose among the recs, skipping several. This will teach me to do that again.

I was reading on another journal and came across another rec for What Was and What Could Have Been. I finally decided to click on it, with serious misgivings. I'm trying to remember at the time what they were. Perhaps it was that I thought the Harry raising Teddy segment was probably humorous and therefore indicative of the entire fic's contents and that since humor usually isn't my cup of tea, I wouldn't like it. Yeah, there was humor. However, Amanuensis's writing completely blew me away. I've somehow, in the admittedly short time I've been in fandom managed not to hear about Amanuensis. Perhaps it's because most of her/his stuff is Nc-17 noncon, which is usually not my cup of tea. But there has to be r and below rated stuff she's written. There just has to be.

Thanks so much for reccing this; it left me grinning madly. I'm definitely off to check out more of her stuff.

Amanuensis is my single most favourite writer *ever*, and I fangirl her to death :). But if you look at her stuff, pay serious attention to the warnings, ok? Not just because of the NC-17, more because, um, a lot of the NC-17 is able to scare *me* to death (which is just how I like things, but...). I'd recommend 'A World Not So Black Nor White' or 'Love's Appalling Adverbs' :).
