Life in the Absence of Cats
Feb. 22nd, 2008 06:16 pmThere isn't much feline activity in E-Town (or where I live, at any rate, which is probably a good thing as there are lots of rather busy streets). Anyone who's heard me whine about Hexe teh Cat is probably aware that I *like* feline activity.
Now my parents amuse me with reports of Hexe's adventures and misadventures, but... it's not the same thing. Just how cat-deprived I am was brought home to me last night when I was walking home.
I rounded the corner house to my block, and there she was in the ground floor window - an utter beauty, black with some white underbelly/chin/paws, and the most beautiful green eyes I've seen on a cat, ever. A dark, soulful forest green, not a shred of yellow... gorgeous!
Not proud to say that I spent about five minutes cooing and admiring her (thank heavens British houses tend to have the blinds inside, and she lay outside the blinds and right in front of the glass, so no one but her could see me all gooey and love-struck).
I guess she went "yes, can-opener-thing, I *know* I'm beautiful, and now go away, you're making an utter fool out of yourself here!"
It nearly had me tear up because I realised how much I miss Hexe, or being around cats occasionally in general. Damn! Even if I could have pets (the rent agreement says no), it'd be too small a place for a feline to be happy without being able to go outside (busy road, 2nd floor, not on), and I'm home too rarely. Still, damn! Can't wait to see her in summer!
