Dear Royal Mail,

When I come home and find a 'Sorry, you were out' parcel notification from you, my bad.

When I ring you up and ask can I please have it redelivered on Saturday 'cause I'll be home then and you tell me 'yes, no problem', I'll be mildly sceptical, but happy.

If you don't show up on Saturday, I growl a little, but am not surprised.

If I come home Monday evening, however, and find parcel in front of my door in the stairwell, I'll be pissed, 'cause, meh, not mine, bloody expensive, and (no insult to my neighbours who are weird but mostly nice), anybody could just have walked away with it, and then [livejournal.com profile] hummelchen would have sacrificed me to some chthonic deity and carved my bones into Scrabble chips or something...

Seriously, if you say you'll do it, do it right or not at all, kthnx!

No love whatsoever,

Me.

Yeah, that would be our Royal Mail. They can be really bad. And there's nothing you can do because they know where you live.

*giggles*

They sure do! Anything else I wouldn't have cared so much about, but that was a pretty valuable parcel...

Useful lesson no.1 about living in the post-privatization UK, then. NEVER ENTRUST TO THE ROYAL MAIL ANYTHING YOU CARE ABOUT, NOR ANYTHING VALUABLE.

I hear you, but fetching by hand would've been a wee bit hard and I'm not yet familiar with more reliable services. But I might have to be soonish ;(.

Ah, yes, the good old tradition there :S Plus, they're so smart that they have their pick-up hours in the middle of the working day, which is why most people aren't in to get the parcels on delivery time anyway...

Actually, their centre in Leith is open until 7pm, which is pretty good... Maybe it's my own fault that I didn't want to carry this home on the bus myself, being fragile and unwieldy and such...

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

Sorry, but you had it good. Come back when the mailmen have stolen £200 from you and you have no recourse.

Mind you, they have their excuse. The filthy privatizing scum that pass for a government in this benighted island have been working the post service up for privatization - which will mean less pay, more work, and infinitely more inefficiency. You may remember that, in my vocabulary, "privatizer" lies three steps below "incestuous child rapist".

Welcome to the United Kingdom. You had better get used to the idea that things around here are done badly more often than not.

Granted, it went mercifully well, all things considered, but still... Not that the German system (still somewhat state-owned, though they chipped away a lot of services and privatised them and as you say... recipe for overpriced services, underpaid workers, organisational chaos and just general nightmarishness.

That sounds like the german post and the one in Uk are twins!. No better here.......So we should be used to that!

And no I´m only sometimes really, really pissed off to do sooooo bad things, but I must confess that you give me some ideas! ;-) (not for you but for somebody I know! :-D)

Yes, but at home I'd cycle there, pick up, cycle home, no trouble...

Well, if someone had filched *that* I'm pretty sure there would have been bone chips or something ;).

At least they left you a card.
Once, a friend sent me an entire *box* full of goodies from Japan.
It was returned to her after a few weeks, bc apparently I hadn't contacted the Post Office about an alternate delivery date.

(And yes, they insisted they'd left a card. Lying bastards.)

So far they've always left a card... I think. But I usually know when something is coming my way, and that helps.

the mail people are useless! my postman (we seem to have a new one every few weeks) at the moment has a habit of leaving the letters hanging halfway out of the letterbox, so if its raining (and it almost always is) then one half of the letters get soaked >_
