Exchange Fest Pimp!

I hope the lot of you aren't getting all twitchy at the mention of 'anonymous exchanges' from trying to follow everything that's being posted right now and wishing for a time turners to be able to :).

BUT... [livejournal.com profile] springtime_gen will be running a new fest/exchange in early 2007, for which signups have started today (and will be running until January 5).

It's GEN! There's never enough GEN. You know you want to do it! *squints at some prime candidates on the f-list*
(Yup, people were mad enough to let me help with the modding. No, that's not an excuse to scream and run!)

Sign up here.

Argh! I didn't realise you were posting quite so soon, and I've been out every night this week and the terminals at work don't allow cut-and-paste and I didn't want to login as chthonya on a shared terminal where I couldn't clear history and besides I wanted to see if there was a way to make those little textboxes bigger. And there is. But now I'm too late. :(

For future reference, though, its:

I don't know about Springtimegen - it's a bit soon after, and a bit similar to, the Christmas gen challenge, and I still have a backlist of challenge inspired fics I'd like to get on with, not to mention Invictus...

In future years, perhaps it would be better to move springtime gen to summertimegen? Otherwise we have two major gen challenges following on quite closely. Though I suppose others find it easier to write to challenges than I do...

So I'll probably decline this time, and regret it like mad when the results are in! :)

Thanks! And the template was just a thought - it works pretty well the old way too :). But knowing my soft spot for LJ gadgets, I'll put it to use for myself pretty certainly too (and thanks for the detailed tutorial!).

Well, we did extend the signup for that reason - that it comes during holidaygen and all the other fest exchanges. But on the other hand, it'll be April til posting, and hopefully people have a clear head again by then from the over-dose of holiday fic :).

Don't feel pressured at all - just wanted to make sure it's well-pimped so you know about it and can say yay or nay. I'd rather have Invictus myself, but don't quote me on that ;).

Yeah, I know it's until April, it's just that for me it would be repeating the same challenge. If I'd been writing smut for Christmas probably doing a gen exchange would feel more refreshing than it does.

So, maybe it'll be Invictus after all. Plus the other three challenge fics I didn't get written...

Something else that occured to me last night was that you might want to be more upfront on the comm about who is moderating - in that poll I did a while ago people seemed to be motivated to get involved with a challenge if they knew and/or respected the people who were running it or participating in it.

Heh, the mod secret wasn't intentional - just a matter of over-eagerness and overlooking some things. It's there now to scare off potential participants ;).

Re: Screening requests (below). Personally, I find it very intriguing to have them for all to see (and puzzle, though apart from two, perhaps three, I'm completely adrift in this year's smutmas or harrhols, or holidaygen...). But mostly we decided on unscreened to give the newbies a guideline on how things should look like.

Weird about those challenges, really - you didn't get some written, I dragged one single piece two weeks over the deadline, and suddenly I'm productive... could've used that two months ago!

And as always, *whatever* you do is going to be interesting ;).

Um ... maybe I'm reading this the wrong way, but the people who sign up get the text of a requested prompt, right? Is it just me, or does the fact that the signup posts are viewable by all make the anonymity a bit pointless in that case (as you could go and look up who you were writing for)?

It's not a blind exchange like [livejournal.com profile] reversathon. At least, last year it wasn't. You had your giftee identified (which makes it a lot easier to work out what they might like!). It's only the author of the fic who's anonymous.

Ah, right. That makes sense.

*points up*
What she said, ;). Reversathon is the rare bird on being totally anonymous, I think - at least in my limited experience.

hp_holidaygen was pretty anonymous - we got a prompt but didn't know who we were writing for. So, though as the fics are posted we're finding out the recipient's identity, but it was completely anonymous at the writing stage. Personally I agree with leni_jess that it's helpful to know who I'm writing with (somewhat less helpful if the giftee is a stranger with an flocked LJ, but thems the breaks).

I agree with snorkackcatcher - having the requests are visible cuts the anonymity considerably, as you can look at who is willing to write the sort of thing you're requesting, which gives you a smaller pool of people to guess from (particularly if people are using your devious detection methods ;) In fact, I'd come back here to make that point, and suggest that you screened the posts. Or am I missing something?

I'm there! My first fic exchange.

I solemly predict that I will be the first person to bow out, though, as I'm crap at writing to prompts. :p

*squee*
I doubt it! Hopefully the prompts will leave enough wriggle room :). But to be honest, I usually freak right up to when I get an assignment myself, dreading I'll get something hard to pull off, or get no bunny. Yet somehow, things always work out ;).
But *wheee*! 33 signups already! *hops around madly*
